How to Get Your Kids Interested in Music and Help Them Make the First Steps

When it comes to getting your kids interested in music, it can be easy, or it can get pretty hard. In most cases, you can’t really do anything to force a child to be interested in a topic you’re interested in. Even if you and your spouse (and all the rest of the family) loves music, your child might be more interested to become a doctor or a fighter pilot. However, if a seed of interest is there and you just have to find it, then there are a few simple and non-obtrusive ways to help them find it:

  • Surround your child with music at a young age, and see which sounds they are more interested in. They might like a particular instrument sound more than any other – for example the guitar. Play it more to them, and even get them a toy guitar they can play with.
  • Get them fun toys and games that emphasize the use and easy learning of music, and that also bridges some of their other interests. You might, for example, find an app that features their favorite cartoon character and includes relaxing guitar songs that your child likes. Or you might even find a book where that cartoon character teaches the basics of music.
  • Once they get to the age where they can handle a musical instrument, help them see the value of learning to actually play and practice. They might have fears that say “others are better than me” or “it’s really hard.” Help them work through those fears, and they’ll probably love the learning process a lot more.
  • If your child seems particularily interested in a certain type of instrument, find quality used musical instruments online for children (or adults too!) at affordable pricing.
